Bob joined the armed forces in the summer of 1963. He came up through the ranks, Private, Sergeant, Warrant Officer 1 through Chief Warrant Officer 3 and a direct commission to Captain. He retired after 20 years with the U.S. Army holding the rank of Captain. While in Vietnam he flew Cobra attack helicopters in an air cavalry troop-call sign "Darkhorse 39." He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), Soldier's Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal and others. Besides his Army Aviator Wings he also earned his paratrooper badge. He retired from active duty in January 1984. In 1983 he was issued a Class C license by the State of Texas to conduct private investigations in all categories of private security contracting. From 1985 through 2005 he served as a Department of Army Emergency Essential Civilian Advisor. In that position he participated in major United States missions in Bosnia, Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kuwait, Iraq and other locations. After this second twenty-year career he retired again from civil service with the rank equivalence of Lieutenant Colonel. He and his wife, Adine, settled down at their ranch in Killeen, Texas to raise longhorn cattle. They have five adult children and nine grandchildren. He is an avid firearms collector and supporter of the Former Texas Ranger Association/Foundation.
