Most people appreciate a helping hand. Few of us can do everything alone these days.

But what if the help is thrust upon you? And you didn't ask for it? And it makes your life worse?

Do you still have to be thankful?

This was the problem facing Kate Becker, a down-on-her-luck, thirty-four-year-old lawyer who lived with her mother.

When her car broke down, and she couldn't afford the repair, her mother's kooky friend offered to help fix it for free. But the kooky friend was a melodramatic mess who never missed a chance to insult Kate. The thought of owing her made Kate's stomach queasy.

But no one turns down free, right?

Or maybe you do.

This a light-hearted, fun story with quirky and eccentric characters.
