Review By Jack Magnus

That's A Stinky Can of Worms! A Pandemic Problem is a children's educational picture book written by Nita Marie Clark and illustrated by Kathy N. Doherty. Flippay was the world's most famous Ribbittor, and his concerts were always packed with enthusiastic crowds, whose acclaim would follow him as he left the stage. This time, he was greeted by silence and there would be no after-party. When he received an urgent message as he sat in his dressing room, he realized that things really had changed. Large events, like his concerts, would be canceled to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Flippay knew he was safe; he wore his mask everywhere and practiced the six-foot rule, but even as he looked out the entrance of the concert hall, he saw throngs of people, and many were not wearing masks. All this concern over the pandemic made him think of home. Why not go home for a spell to Swamptown. He'd love to see his old friends and relax a spell in the swampy waters. He knew he was covid-free, and decided to pack his bags and leave the very next day. Then he had an awful dream that made him think twice about his journey. Nita Marie Clark's That's A Stinky Can of Worms! addresses a frightening problem that affects children perhaps more than anyone else. They're suddenly not able to go to school, play with their friends, or eat out with their families. Many of them don't get to see their grandparents, even in the holidays and on their birthdays. Clark's story addresses the fact that even doing all the right things in wearing masks and practicing social distancing doesn't guarantee that one hasn't been infected and that many don't have symptoms, or are, like Flippay just feeling a bit tired or run-down. Kathy N. Doherty's illustrations are fun and work so well with the story. They bring the famous Ribbittor artist to life and make Swamptown seem like a truly tempting place to visit and stay awhile. That's A Stinky Can of Worms! A Pandemic Problem is most highly recommended.
