His reviews for the San Francisco Chronicle between 1942 and 1947 contributed to his reputation as a specialist in mystery literature. Classic mystery books like Nine Times Nine, The Case of the Crumpled Knave, and Rocket to the Mortuary are among Boucher's best-known creations. He also produced a large number of short tales, many of which were accepted by periodicals like The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction and Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. Boucher was a prolific author of radio plays, in addition to his work in the mystery and science fiction genres. He contributed to a number of well-known shows, including Suspense and Escape. The pseudonyms Boucher used, such "H. H. Holmes" and "Herman W. Mudgett," were a reflection of his interest in crime and mystery. One of the greatest examples of his mastery of the genre is his book Nine Times Nine, which was chosen as the ninth best locked room mystery of all time in a 1981 survey of 17 detective tale authors and critics. In conclusion, Anthony Boucher had a significant impact on the mystery and science fiction genres, and his legacy still motivates and has an impact on authors today.
