His English was not good, so he could not make the man understand that Juanita was his niece, his wife's family's pride and joy, their hope for the future. Produktbeschreibung
Pedro had entrusted his niece to the red haired American. His English was not good, so he could not make the man understand that Juanita was his niece, his wife's family's pride and joy, their hope for the future. But the red haired American and his men had picked up hundreds of illegal aliens from Pedro. It was Pedro's job to get them from just inside the border to another point a hundred miles north. From there the American took the desperate, frightened people to cities and towns in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and even as far away as Oklahoma or Colorado where they could find manual labor: work in factories and jobs as migratory field workers. The women went to live with friends until they could be hired out as domestic servants or work in restaurants and bakeries. At least that is how it usually happened, but not this time.

Autorenporträt
Mark Stepp graduated college with double majors in journalism and education. His minors were professional writing, psychology, English, and math. He is SAP and OSHA certified, a certified systems engineer and database manager, a former financial adviser and tax adviser, and a certified sea captain (sail boats). His only complaint is being bored. He began his career as a reporter and photographer for Oklahoma County News Publishing. His beat was the eastern half of Oklahoma County. He later became editor-in-chief for the Wewoka Daily Times. After leaving the Times, he took over publication of the Mayes County Chronicle and then went to work as the assistant city life editor for the Oklahoma Journal, a large daily covering Oklahoma City and the surrounding area. He has ghost written more than a dozen books. After the Journal went out of business, Stepp spent a few years as a freelance photographer for Globe Photos, an international stock photography company, before becoming the lead editor at Old American Publishing, specializing in hometown publications. During that time he also worked as a technical editor for some of Houston's Fortune 100 companies, primarily creating publications for those companies. He spent 12 years with Schlumberger Oilfield Services as a senior technical writer/editor. He took an early retirement in 2017 to concentrate on writing novels. Today, he is CEO of Sunshine America video productions. As a businessman, Stepp has owned two weekly newspapers (Mayes County Chronicle and Harrah News); two printing companies (Presto Print and Astroprint); a property management company (Showcase Home Management); three vapor stores (Captain Vapor), and a publishing company (Old American Publishing). He describes himself as a professional writer and businessman. He obtained his securities license in 1987, and has been active in the stock market since that time. Stepp has two daughters, one owns and operates a Pilates Studio in Texas, and the other is a book editor. He loves to travel and plans someday to officially retire in the Philippines. His wife, Cherry, works for a financial planning company in Oklahoma.
