This boy is Sharif Qandil, or the sad journalist, as he used to call himself in his first articles. The truth is that I have known Sherif Qandil for a long time, more than thirty years. During that period, he traveled a lot because he was a diligent journalist. Al-Muslimun newspaper would often send him to places of conflict in the world. I remember well how much he suffered during these travels, and his family suffered from anxiety and fear because he always followed the wars in Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan, Senegal, and Afghanistan. As a culmination of that period, he won the Ali and Hisham Hafez Prize for Journalism, shared with literary writer Ahlam Mosteghanemi. He was loaded with the nation's issues and concerned about them, but there is no objection to bringing the popular costume of each country as a souvenir of its integration with their concerns.
