As much as Douglas' young sidekick, Charlie, has been trying to redirect his emotional energy, away from his mom's best friend, he is still hopelessly at Yen's mercy. And so, in the first novella here, Charlie and the protagonist meet her for a beguiling tryst at the vacant hotel, which already has seen so much debauchery during the last two years.
When Charlie picked Yen up at her house, however, her daughter with whom Douglas had a brief affair in the past wonders where her ravishing mother is going with the young chap. When Charlie eventually admits to her that Yen had indulged in a salacious threesome, Linh insists that it should be her turn now.
Finally, Douglas' muse, Nguyet, needs him to forge plans with her in regard to loosening up her new lover, Hiroshi Nakamura, who she intends to marry. Hiroshi is still a bit stiff and inhibited, but couldn't Douglas conceive ideas how to relax Nguyet's new beau's loins?
As varied as the episodes are, they all have one theme in common: Ultimately, they tell captivating tales of liberation from rigid, confining moral norms. All chapters are meant to entertain, amuse, and in the best case stimulate, without slipping into crudity. All light-hearted novellas here are told in a very revealing, tongue-in-cheek manner and, in passing, offer insights into Vietnamese culture. Without taboos, the episodes explore the sources and dynamic of erotic desire and lure the reader under the spell of an exotic world.
The author of this extensive series of ribald stories has been enjoying Southeast Asia for ten years now. After living in Germany and the U.S. for most of his life, Douglas ventured in the opposite direction in 2010: first, he taught at a community college in the South Seas for three years, before settling in Vietnam. Naturally, his writing reflects his undying love for Southeast Asian women.
