A spell-binding tale of Guinevere and Arthur, perfect for fans of Bernard Cornwell and Judith Tarr.

On the night of Guinevere's birth, a wise woman declares a prophecy of doom for the child: She will be gwenhwyfar, the white shadow, destined to betray her king, and be herself betrayed.

Years pass, and Guinevere becomes a great beauty, riding free across North Wales on her beloved horse. She is entranced by the tales of brave King Arthur, a courageous warrior who seems to Guinevere no mere man, but a legend.

Then she finds herself betrothed to that same famous king, a hero who commands her willing devotion. Just as his knights and all his subjects have before her, she falls under Arthur's spell. And then the king's young bride falls prey to a devastating betrayal...

This epic tale of love, adventure and treachery is brought to life anew in Nancy McKenzie's vivid retelling of the story of one of the most famous queens of them all.

Autorenporträt
Nancy McKenzie's first two novels, The Child Queen (1994) and The High Queen (1995), were handwritten in notebooks in school parking lots and all sorts of waiting rooms - the only available spare time when raising three young children - and were typed into her primitive desktop Mac late each night. Originally published in 1994 and 1995, these books were republished in a single volume as Queen of Camelot in 2002. She is also the author of Grail Prince, the story of Galahad (2003), and Prince of Dreams, the story of Tristan & Essylte (2004). Guinevere's Gift and Guinevere's Gamble, two young adult novels, came out in 2008 and 2009. She lives with her husband Bruce in Connecticut, USA, and is the proud mother of three daughters and grandmother of four young grandchildren.
