Wangerin examines one small symbolic revolution against American capitalist culture. It was carried out by youth who were painfully and personally aware of the problems of what they called the System, though they did not necessarily understand the underlying causes of their problems. RUTH WANGERIN lives in the New York area and travels extensively. She has taught anthropology at Queens College and the City University of New York and is also affiliated with the sociology department of Tehran University in Iran.
