In 1663 the common Cossack meeting was gathered in Nizhyn to elect the hetman of the Left-bank Ukraine. The period of the split after the repudiation by the unfortunate manager Yuri Khmelnytsky became the really "black" for Ukraine - the gloomy period before becoming the part of the other empire.
