The Chronicles of Up from Slavery: A Teachers Guide was written by Dr. Obiora N. Anekwe in order to help first-year college students develop an oral history project and theatrical production based on
Dr. Booker T. Washingtons autobiography, Up from Slavery. The book is also appropriate for usage among high school students. Dr. Anekwe wrote his teachers guide during his tenure as an academic administrator at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. During April of 2010, he executive produced and directed his first-year students oral history lecture and theatrical production in the Tuskegee University Chapel. After the productions overwhelming success, Dr. Anekwe presented a joint paper based on the process of creating the Booker T. Washington Writers Desk at the School of Visual Arts Annual Conference in Manhattan, New York, and the Robert R. Taylor Symposium at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama.
