Offering a simplified approach to understanding the mechanisms of beautiful performance, this book attempts to design a framework with which to interpret performers and their movement. Beginning as a critique of the modern culture of performance, the book takes an observational journey towards understanding the weightlessness and effortlessness seen in elite-level movement. At the center of the book is the sometimes unnoticed relationship between language and movement and their influence on the concept of beauty itself. Eventually, it becomes clear that to experience and understand beautiful performance, one needs to have the language to identify it; with the appropriate language in hand, one can deconstruct and recreate movements-granting themselves the experience of beauty itself. By making language and movement symmetrical, the equation that produces beautiful performance becomes simplified, making the art of self-expression more accessible to anyone. Ultimately, this book exists to inspire the curious person to discover and play with the cosmic gift of ever-lasting performance for themselves-granting the permission to exercise boundless creativity with language and movement.

Autorenporträt
Eric Escobar is a writer, movement teacher, and philosopher born, raised and living in San Francisco. A graduate of UC Berkeley's English and Philosophy departments, Eric has honed the art of observation and has taught himself to articulate to himself and to others what intrigues him about the relationship between language and movement. Fascinated by the idea of beauty and the experience of beauty itself, Eric has spent years trying to discover the common ground between all performance (physical and linguistic). Achieving certification and gaining valuable experience across different categories of movement (weightlifting, martial arts, gymnastics, and so on), he noticed there is and has always been a universal language of movements that produce equally beautiful performance. His life's work has been to try and simplify the revelation that beauty is in fact not an object itself, but the result of the convergence between language and movement. His relentless pursuit to do away with the gatekeeping of elite level coaching and performance and to highlight that beauty is commonly accessible to anyone who achieves convergence has culminated in this project, The Cosmic Mover.
