Curwood was born in Owosso, Michigan, and his early love of the outdoors had a big impact on his writing. After working as, a journalist for a while, Curwood moved full-time into fiction writing. His time spent in the woods served as an inspiration for him, and he frequently included themes of adventure, survival, and the relationship between people and nature into his books.
