The Crux is a young adult fantasy novel about a teenaged, timid, and inept girl named Jenna Weir. Alistair, a wizard, recruits Jenna to help defend Lendaw from Anko, an evil overlord who seeks world domination and enslavement. Alistair believes Jenna is the fulfillment of a prophecy: One will come who will be of, but not from Lendaw. One who will have the power that Anko cannot defeat. With the finding of the one, Ankos domain will cease to be forever. Through her training, experience, and many confrontations with enemy forces, Jenna discovers abilities and powers she never had before. These abilities enable her to grow as a person. Jenna grows in a confidence that she realizes was always there. When confronted with tragedy or adversity, Jenna discovers the inner strength to rise to the challenge presented to her and to overcome her fears.

Autorenporträt

R. J. Confiant was born in Toronto, Canada. He graduated with a degree in BSc general from the University of Waterloo. He has studied creative writing with courses from Langara College, University of British Columbia, and Simon Fraser University. This is his first novel. With his penning of "The Crux," he has written a character who discovers that she is more than what she first appears to be. She is a lot like himself in that she is someone who appears to be unassuming but, when presented with tragedy or adversity, discovers an inner strength within herself. She overcomes her doubts and fears, and she rises to the challenge and she succeeds. His hobbies include writing short stories, poetry, and lyrics.
