This book is written for language teachers and teacher trainers and presents the practical application and use of the Cuisenaire Rods in language classes. Eight chapters take the reader from zero to an autonomous level of skill wth clear and hands-on examples of creating a simple clock right up to the most complex of storytelling and business language. The use of the rods in language teaching presupposes a certain approach which would probably come under the heading of Humanistic Approaches in the sense that the student or learner is central as opposed to the slightly more traditional view of the teacher as central.

Autorenporträt
The author, Steve Hirschhorn was born in 1949. He has an MA in Applied Linguistics, a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK). He has been teaching and training teachers since 1980 and is keenly interested in all aspects of Humanistic Education. He has specialised in using Silent Way, Suggestopedia, Task Based Learning and Total Physical Response. He is extremely interested in collaborative teacher observation and feedback as well as creating a safe and equitable learning and teaching environment. His latest campaign is to reduce the number of ancillary and unnecessary 'skills' language teachers are now expected to master: Critical Thinking, Mindfulness etc. which he believes are designed to mask the unwelcome truth that language teaching in its most basic form is very difficult. This volume is conceived to contribute to that movement, back to a more transparent and logical base.
