A gripping and heart-warming new saga of love, betrayal and secrets from Lynne Francis, author of The Margate Saga, perfect for fans of Dilly Court and Rosie Goodwin

Kent, 1828.

Lizzie Carey of Castle Bay is trapped in a life she never chose - endless days of cooking, cleaning, and caring for her five younger siblings after her elder sister Nell's marriage. She longs to escape, but it seems like an impossible dream.

That is, until she meets the enigmatic Mrs. Simmonds, who promises Lizzie a future far beyond the confines of her small town. The allure of a new life in Canterbury draws Lizzie into a world she never imagined, but it soon becomes clear that nothing is as it seems . . .

Torn between family loyalty and the tantalising unknown, Lizzie is forced to confront a truth darker than she could have imagined.

How far will she go to break free from the life she knows - and what price will she pay for her freedom?

Autorenporträt
Lynne Francis grew up in Yorkshire but studied, lived and worked in London for many years. She draws inspiration for her novels from a fascination with family history, landscapes and the countryside. Her first saga series, the Mill Valley Girls, was set in west Yorkshire but a move to east Kent, and the discovery of previously unknown family links to the area, gave her the idea for a Georgian-era trilogy. Lynne's exploration of her new surroundings provided the historical background for the novels, as well as allowing her to indulge another key interest: checking out the local teashops and judging the cake. When she's not at her desk, writing, Lynne can be found in the garden, walking through the countryside or beside the sea.
