Autorenporträt
I'm a fifty-year-old divorced therapist from the Midwest who has always been a writer but never an author-until now. I help people for a living, so naturally it made sense to write my first book about a topic that pushed at my own confidence and self-esteem. I grew up in a loving family, the oldest sister, with a mom who stayed home with us and a dad who worked but always helped my mom, parented, and never needed to be asked to be involved in his kids' lives. Their marriage was the best role model of how relationships should look and feel. My parents are still married after nearly fifty-five years, so my role models are fiercely intact and lovingly supportive. I went to college, got my master's in social work in the mid-1990s, and got married in the late 90s to someone I met at work. Twenty-two years later, I found myself broken and divorced while the world also seemed to be breaking, and this is when I decided dating would be a good idea. Little did I know what was waiting for me. I am a "old lady distance runner" who started running at age thirty-eight and never wanted to be competitive. I run to spend intentional time with some of my best friends, and it was on these runs that I would tell my dating stories. I got feedback, support, love, and most of all, a lot of laughter. "Rose, you have to write a book about these men." So, I did. I had to write about what was happening to be able to laugh and heal, and I realized, as my friends kept laughing, that humor was my coping mechanism.
