Produktbeschreibung
In 'The Essays of Arthur Schopenhauer; the Art of Controversy,' the renowned philosopher presents a keen exploration of rhetoric and the dynamics of argumentation. Schopenhauer delves into the nature of debate, navigating through strategies and tactics used in literary and philosophical discourses. This collection reflects his distinctive literary style, blending incisive analysis with engaging prose, whilst firmly rooting his arguments within the philosophical context of the early 19th century. The essays reveal not only Schopenhauer's critical perspective on the techniques employed in public discourse but also his broader reflections on human psychology and the often irrational nature of conflict. Arthur Schopenhauer, a pivotal figure in Western philosophy, is known for his profound insights into desire, suffering, and the will. His exposure to varying philosophical traditions, from Kant to Eastern thought, shaped his intellectual pursuits. Struggling against dogmatic philosophies and societal norms, Schopenhauer's work gave voice to themes of individuality and the human condition, making him a precursor to existentialism and modern thought. His views on controversy stem from his own experiences in the philosophical arena, where he often encountered vehement opposition and misinterpretation. This book is an essential read for those intrigued by philosophical thought, rhetoric, or the mechanics of human interactions. Schopenhauer's insightful discourse invites readers to reconsider their approach to argumentation, urging a deeper understanding of the underlying motives and emotions that govern human debates. Engaging and thought-provoking, 'The Art of Controversy' stands as a testament to the complexities of communication and the eternal dance of ideas.

Autorenporträt
Arthur Schopenhauer (22 February 1788 - 21 September 1860) was a German philosopher. He is best known for his 1818 work The World as Will and Representation (expanded in 1844), wherein he characterizes the phenomenal world as the product of a blind and insatiable metaphysical will. Building on the transcendental idealism of Immanuel Kant, Schopenhauer developed an atheistic metaphysical and ethical system that rejected the contemporaneous ideas of German idealism. He was among the first thinkers in Western philosophy to share and affirm significant tenets of Indian philosophy, such as asceticism, denial of the self, and the notion of the world-as-appearance. His work has been described as an exemplary manifestation of philosophical pessimism.
