Produktbeschreibung
In "The Eternal Feminine," Carolyn Wells crafts a poignant exploration of women's roles through the lens of humor and satire, revealing the complexities and contradictions of feminine identity in early 20th-century America. The book employs a distinctive blend of witty prose and sharp observation, situating itself within the broader literary context of both the burgeoning feminist movement and the evolving social norms of the time. Through a series of vignettes and character sketches, Wells invites readers to reflect on societal expectations while celebrating the resilience and individuality of women, ultimately positing that femininity is both fluid and multifaceted. Carolyn Wells, an American author and poet, was an astute observer of her time, influenced by the prevailing feminist sentiments and the cultural shifts that marked the early 1900s. Her experiences as a writer and editor in a male-dominated literary world undoubtedly informed her perspectives, fueling her desire to articulate the subtleties of women's lives. Wells's ability to blend humor with critical social commentary showcases not only her literary prowess but also her commitment to addressing themes of gender and identity. I highly recommend "The Eternal Feminine" to readers interested in feminist literature and social critique. Wells's incisive wit and relatable characters ensure that this examination of womanhood resonates across generations, making it a valuable addition to both literary studies and personal bookshelves alike.

Autorenporträt
American writer Carolyn Wells (1862-1942) is best known for her children's books, poetry, and mystery thrillers. Wells, who was raised in Rahway, New Jersey, showed an early aptitude for writing and went on to become a prolific and creative writer. Early in her career, Wells published multiple volumes of poetry and hilarious verse, which helped her establish her reputation as a poet and humourist. But her contributions to the mystery genre-especially her detective novels with well-known sleuths like Fleming Stone and Pennington Wise-are arguably what she is most known for. Wells was a prolific writer as well as an active participant in a number of literary and social groups. She was a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the Poetry Society of America, among other esteemed literary associations. Even though her novels are today regarded as detective fiction masterpieces from the early 20th century, Wells's influence goes beyond the mystery subgenre. She was a talented writer who flourished in a variety of genres, and her body of work still inspires and amuses readers to this day.
