Autorenporträt
The author grew up in a small New England town in a lower-middle-income family of five children, where she ranked number three. She was extremely shy as a child, which made her high school and college years difficult. After teaching herself guitar in seventh grade, music would become one of her saving graces throughout her life, though she seldom played in front of an audience. After receiving her degree in graphic design, she went on to work as a freelancer for ad agencies and other artists. Eventually, she became her own boss with her own clients. She and her husband had their first child the same year they built their home. The author redesigned and drew up new house plans and played an important role in overseeing the construction of their property, along with caring for their son. Life went on fairly normally until the birth of their daughter in 1992. The next twenty-two years would be challenging for both her and her husband. These would be years of trying to raise a family and maintain a stable environment while coping with the continuous fallout from a serious mental illness.
