This novel is considered a continuation of the novel "The Aspiring Poet", and its events revolve around Al-Mutanabbi's flight from Egypt after his hopes were shattered at the hands of Kafur Al-Ikhshidi. His journey in the desert lasted three months, until he reached Kufa, his birthplace, after a long absence of thirty years. Kufa was then under the rule of a governor, Mu'izz al-Dawla, who had a penchant for literature and poetry, but he was very keen on his position. He then traveled to Baghdad, but he did not like to live there because of the brutality of the people. Mu'izz al-Dawla and his minister al-Muhallabi, so he returned to Kufa again. During his stay in Kufa, Qarmatian raids broke out, so he went out to fight them, and the battle ended, and the Persian poet returned victorious. He did not stay in Iraq except for three years, which he spent between Kufa and Baghdad, then he left for Persia, in response to the invitation of Abu al-Fadl ibn al-Ameed, the vizier of Adud al-Dawla "in Arjan," and then he moved on. To "Shiraz" and stayed there for several months, until he decided to return to Iraq, and while he was returning to his country on a dark night in the company of Ubaida His son and a group of his friends attacked Fatik Al-Asadi and his men, as they had set their sights on killing Al-Mutanabbi for his attack on Dabbat Al-Asadi. The battle continued between the two sides, until Al-Mutanabbi was stabbed in his left side and subsequently died.
