Benjamin was a young shepherd boy in the fields outside of the little town of Bethlehem, sitting next to a fire watching the sheep shuffle around trying to sleep for the night. Benjamin was a young shepherd boy in the fields outside of the little town of Bethlehem, sitting next to a fire watching the sheep shuffle around trying to sleep for the night. Suddenly, the brightest star he had ever seen appeared in the sky over Bethlehem. He remembered the sights and sounds earlier in the day when he slipped into town to watch the crowds of people coming from all parts of the country to participate in a census ordered by Caesar Augustus. As Benjamin arrived, this is what he heard and saw on that unforgettable day. Little did he know then that it would turn out to be-The First Night Before Christmas.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

My name is Wellington E. Watts II. I bring over 30 years of experience in education as a public school teacher, a private school teacher, and a Christian school administrator to this book. My father, Rev. Earl Watts was a Wesleyan minister for 45 years and my mother, Anna served tirelessly with him. My brother, Ron became a United Methodist minister for 49 years and my sisters Marilyn and Beverly were public school teachers until their retirement.

I am married to Nancy (Worrell) Watts and through the years she has been a vital part of my ministry. Her vocal renditions of the music I created were featured on CDs. She taught in public school for 21 years and was named Teacher of the Year for the district.

We have one son, Wellington III, a student of Biblical history as well as US history. The year we visited the Shepherd's Field in Bethlehem on that never to be forgotten Christmas Eve, he was about the same age as the shepherd boy, Benjamin in this story.

I am driven by the desire to see this book published and placed in the hands of children all over the world. It is not too late to reach a generation of children and young people who have never heard the story of the birth of Jesus.
