After a deer that his dad shoots runs on their neighbors property, he decides to retrieve it--without the neighbor, Mr. Welch, finding out. Once they cross the property line, Mr. Welch fires shots at them, making them leave the deer behind.

In first grade, McCaid learned to journal which developed into a love of writing. His inspiration to become an author came from his dad, Joel, who wrote many fun, yet interesting stories for his son.
