Author Rebecca Crosdale has combined her passion for helping people with her love of writing.
Having grown up on a farm in Jamaica in the 50s and 60s, Rebecca cultivated her enviable work ethic which has helped her become the writer she is today.
"Where I grew up in Jamaica it was a culture where children were expected to work as hard as grownups and in some cases even harder" she said.
At the age of 14, Rebecca emigrated to England to live with her father where she attended the prestigious Hatters Lane School for girls specializing in art, English, mathematics and religious studies.
She went on to work in the Harrison Stamp Factory which, at the time, had contracts to print for UK's Royal Mail and Royal Mint. It was here she was given the honor to stand in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the royal family.
After nine years in the UK, Rebecca emigrated back across the pacific to the United States where she now resides.
For almost 25 years she has applied her passion to help people to working at the Long Island Developmental Disabilities Service Office. Specializing in the Human Service field meant Rebecca was able to take up her current position for EPIC Long Island Inc, as Medicaid Service Coordination, advocating on the behalf of people with intellectual disabilities issues.
It is through this varied life Rebecca has been driven to share her experiences through the medium of writing children's books.
"I want to share experiences with many of the children who haven't had the opportunities I have and writing seems like the best way to share" she said.
With four titles already in circulation The Spider in My Den, When A Spider Came To Stay, A Thump In The Garden and A True Ghost Story Of Ireland, Rebecca is currently releasing her fifth children's book The Frog In The Pond.An avid traveler, Rebecca feels she has a lot to offer the children's market having experienced many different cultures and observed much about the people she has met and worked with over the years.
Her traveling portfolio is extensive from Europe to Egypt, North America to Bogota. Rebecca has been to China, India, many of the islands in the Caribbean, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey and further afield.
Every aspect of her life is injected with her creativity from writing and gardening to cooking and photography.
