In a supplemental analysis to The Mirage, the comprehensive scholarly review of political religious groups in the Arab world, this paper sheds light upon the illusory tactics of political religious groups following the so-called "Arab Spring" in 2011. With particular emphasis on the Muslim Brotherhood, the methodologies of these political groups are laid bare and their true intentions exposed.

H.E. Minister Prof. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi is an Emirati academic, writer and strategic expert. His Excellency was Director General of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) from 1994 until 2020. He has also chaired, and served on, a number of prestigious advisory and executive boards. His Excellency is widely published, having written and edited numerous titles, including The Yemeni War of 1994: Causes and Consequences, and, Iran and the Gulf: A Search for Stability. He was a contributing author for The Gulf Cooperation Council: Prospects for the Twenty-first Century, and wrote a chapter, titled A Future Perspective, for United Arab Emirates Society. His Excellency's published books include, From Tribe to Facebook: The Transformational Role of Social Networks (2013); Prospects for the American Age: Sovereignty and Influence in the New World Order (2014); and he co-edited Islamic Political Movements and Authority in the Arab World: The Rise and Fall (2014). His renowned work, The Mirage (2015), was awarded the Sheikh Zayed Book Award in 2016, and has been translated into several languages. He also wrote Eternal Imprints: Figures that Made History and Others that Changed the Future of their Countries (2016); and, The Triumph of the Will: The Journey of My Experience (2017). In 2018, he authored United Arab Emirates Society in the Twenty-first Century: Issues and Challenges in a Changing World, followed by Women and Development in 2019. In 2020, His Excellency published Change: Adapt or Perish, and the abridged version of The Mirage. In 2021, his book Muslim Brotherhood in the UAE: The Miscalculations was published. In addition to the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, His Excellency has received several local, regional and international awards in appreciation of his academic contributions, including the Naguib Mahfouz Award for Literature, on April 8, 2016. On March 21, 2017, the Universal Peace Federation awarded His Excellency the title of Ambassador for Peace, in recognition of his efforts to promote a culture of tolerance and moderation. H.E. Al-Suwaidi received his bachelor's degree in political science from Kuwait University in 1981, and his Master's and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, US, in 1985 and 1990, respectively. On January 3, 2017, the University of L.U.de.S. University, Lugano, Switzerland, granted him a professorship in political science and literature.
