Hermann Hesse was born on July 2, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven in the German city of Calv, and began his life as a bookseller in a bookstore in Tübingen and Basel. At the age of twenty-one, he began writing and publishing his poems. Five years later, he won his first major success with his novels about youth and pedagogical problems. He followed a series of novels that met with great success, beginning with (Peter Cammentsend) and then (The Gifted Child), and he followed them with novels such as (Gertrude), (Rosshalda), (Damian), and Siddhartha. And others. He soon established permanent residence in Switzerland in protest against German militarism in World War I, and the world's attention was directed to him at that time as a major literary figure with a humanitarian tendency and a search for wisdom, as is evident in the novels that followed his first collection, such as: ( Coyote) and (Narcissus and Chrysostom), and his poems and critical articles earned him a prominent place among contemporary thinkers. The whole world honored Hermann Hesse when he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for the year one thousand nine hundred and forty-six, an award he well deserved after he wrote his masterpiece (The Glass Bead Game). Hermann Hesse died in the year one thousand nine hundred and sixty-two, having turned eighty-five.
