Autorenporträt
Robert Ervin Howard (1906–1936) was an American author of pulp fiction, who is best known for his character Conan the Barbarian and is regarded as the father of the sword and sorcery subgenre. Howard was born and raised in Texas, where the vast open spaces, history of the Southwest, and various historical texts at his disposal nurtured his imagination for narrative and adventure. He spent most of his life in the town of Cross Plains, with excursions to nearby Brownwood. A bookish and intellectual child, Howard was also passionate about boxing and history. His fiercely wrought tales of fantasy adventure emerged from an eclectic mix of influences, including his own personal ideology and a desire to escape into mythic landscapes of his creation. 'The Gods of Bal-Sagoth' is a shining example of Howard's storytelling prowess, wherein he blends adventure, fantasy, and historical elements. His work is characterized by a visceral and rhythmic prose that reveals a world where muscular heroes battle eldritch forces and malevolent creatures. Howard's contributions to the genre were marked by prolific writings before his untimely death at the age of thirty. Today, Robert E. Howard's literary legacy continues to influence modern fantasy, with a particular resonance in the form of comics, movies, and role-playing games. His work has been collected and republished extensively, continuing to captivate new generations of readers.
