Overview of the Gospel of Matthew
The Gospel of Matthew is one of the four canonical gospels in the New Testament and is traditionally attributed to Matthew, one of Yehoshua's twelve apostles. It is distinct for its emphasis on Yehoshua (otherwise known as Jesus In English) as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and its focus on a Jewish audience.
Author and Date of Writing
The author of the Gospel is believed to be Matthew, also known as Levi, who was a tax collector before becoming a disciple of Yehoshua. Scholars generally date the writing of this gospel to between A.D. 55 and 65. This period was significant as it coincided with a time when most Christians were Jewish converts, which influenced Matthew's perspective and approach in his writings.
