Lloyd Naugle is a third generation boat builder. The sign above his workshop door says Naugle and Sons, but his son, David, is a land developer in Toronto, who comes home with a grand plan, not to build boats with his father, but, to change the face of the village. He only has to persuade three people to sell him their land and then his development can proceed.

Lloyd's apprentice, Maria Kelly, is one of them. She owns her family's old homestead and keeps a dozen sheep and five rescue dogs. As David attempts to charm, then strong arm, and then reason with her into parting with her cherished land, she works to teach him the value of the lifestyle that he rejected two decades earlier.

Mounting complications delay the ground breaking on David's real estate development, and when violence and intimidation take over from rational negotiation the question on everyone's mind is "Do I trust David Naugle?"

Is David a local boy turned bad by the big city? Or is he innocent, as he claims? Will his family throw him off as he once did them? Or will they rally to support him? Will Maria put aside her suspicions and allow the hope he engendered to flourish? Or will she reject her growing feelings?

Kate Langan loves words; long ones, short ones, old and new ones, and she has strung some together to create her most recent work: "The Grand Plan, A Tale of Romance, Crime and Boatbuilding," which she hopes that you will enjoy reading as much as she enjoyed writing. Kate won two awards for her first book "The Art of Worship: The Vision and Craft of Contemporary Nova Scotian Artists."(Nimbus Publishing Ltd, Halifax, 2001,) which was published in conjunction with an exhibit curated by her at the Mary E. Black Gallery in Jan/Feb 2002. She is the author of over seventy five magazine articles published both nationally and internationally, and several radio programs aired on CBC Radio One. Her first ebook, "Beulah in Bethlehem," was published on SMASHWORDS.COM. "The Grand Plan, A Tale of Romance, Crime and Boatbuilding" utilizes her experiences building wooden boats as an instructor with The Nova Scotia Sea School, and is her first novel.
Kate lives with her husband John and their two cats in a cottage on a hill overlooking Halifax Harbor in Nova Scotia.
