Jan McCarthy M.A. (Hons.) Oxon hails from Birmingham, England. She is a published author of newspaper and magazine articles, including articles on bipolar self-management in 'Pendulum', the periodical of Bipolar UK. Her ghost story 'Red Branwen' - described by author and judge Sarah Waters as a 'feminist slasher' - won a place in the finalists' anthology of the Asham Literary Award 2011. Jan is active in the voluntary sector as co-ordinator of a community gardening project and a writing group. She became Age UK Internet Champion in 2013. She lives with her husband Terry. She has two daughters, two sons, and two grand-daughters.
