American writer and environmentalist James Oliver Curwood is well recognised for his adventure books that are set in the Canadian Northwest's wild places. Curwood was born in Owosso, Michigan, and his early love of the outdoors had a big impact on his writing. After working as, a journalist for a while, Curwood moved full-time into fiction writing.
