Marcus Lars Hulings settled near the mouth of the Juniata River in Pennsylvania in 1735 and built Huling Hotel & Stage Coach Inn. His 1st great-grandson (David Watts Hulings) later built Amity Hall Inn on the same property in 1810. During its heyday, in the era of canal boats and stage coaches, Amity Hall Inn was the most famous tavern in Pennsylvania, and remained so well into the 20th century. Famous guests of Amity Hall Inn included inventor Thomas Edison, poet Edwin Markham, boxer Jack Dempsey, and aviator Amelia Earhart. Author Charles Dickens was also said to have stopped there for a meal while traveling by boat on the Pennsylvania Canal during his tour of America in 1842. When Amity Hall Inn ceased operation in 1986, it became the subject of a popular urban legend that the property was haunted. Did ghosts ever haunt Amity Hall Inn at any time during its 199-year existence from 1810 to 2009? Well, that's what we hope to find out.
