Born in Ipswich, Suffolk, to a well-established brewing family, Cobbold was educated at Trinity College, Oxford, before pursuing his calling in the church. As the Rector of Wortham in Suffolk for over fifty years, he was deeply embedded in the community, which served as a wellspring of inspiration for his literary works.
