Autorenporträt
Victor Hugo (1802-1885) was a French poet, novelist, and playwright. The son of one of Napoleon's generals, Hugo took a degree in law but chose a literary life. He was a prolific and driven writer who delivered a steady stream of diverse work covering a wide range of topics bound only by his passionate eloquence. Beloved in France primarily for his poetry, his novels, especially The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Les Miserables, have wider renown in the English speaking world, but the author is justly revered worldwide for his rich humanity and sheer storytelling power.
