Academic Paper in the subject Library Science, Information- / Documentation Science, , language: English, abstract: This study investigates the influence of social networking sites on information service delivery to students of Asom Bur library of university of Mkar. Five objectives and five research question guided the study. The descriptive survey research was adopted for the study. A total of 958 registered users of Ason Bur learning resource center (library) of university of Mkar constituted the population of the study. A sample size of one hundred and sixty (160) students were randomly selected from the entire population of the study using proportionate random sampling technique. A self-developed questionnaire was used to obtain information. Data collected were analyzed using mean scored and standard deviation. Finding revealed that, high percentage (50%) of the students mainly use social networking sites for social activities, only 20% percentage of the population use social networking sites for education. Findings further revealed that to benefit the rich potentials of social networking sites, students should spend less time socializing on them and utilize them for more for school-related activities and worthwhile events. It was also recommended that the university management through the library should encourage the students in the use of other social networking sites like Skype, LinkedIn, MySpace, Google Classroom and Zoom Meeting so that their knowledge will be widened, students should include the use of Google Classroom to the list of social networking sites they explore to reap its benefits. Though students use social networking sites frequently (daily and weekly), care must be taken to avoid them from using them when lectures are ongoing. This will help to curb the extent to which students are distracted during lecture periods. The university library through the library should encourage other methods of service delivered to student such e-books, posting photos, videos, voice over protocol and others. Also, the University management through the library should ensure the provision of basic information needed by academic community, faster and effective information service delivery, independent and life-long learning and provision of information necessary to improve quality of teaching.

Martins Vershima Tolough was born in February 27th 199Oths into the Family of Dr. Geoffrey Tolough. He attended NKST Bristow Nursery and Primary School Gboko from 1996 to 2005. He also studied at the prestigious Great Bethel International College Gboko form 2005 to 2011and obtained his West African Certificate in 2011. Tolough hold a Diploma in Computer Appreciation at Banefa Computer Institute Gboko, Diploma in Library and Information Science at Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, BSC, (Hons) Library and Information Science form Benue State University MAKURDI, Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from National Teachers Institute Kaduna.and currently undergoing a Master's degree in Library and information science at Benue State University Tolough have authored about 20th Local and international Journals and articles. Tolough is a Vice Principal Administration at Nguher Science Academy Gboko were He also thought in Nursery and Primary School, He has teaches in Secondary schools where He educate, nature more skills to students in order to prepare them for External Examination such as WAEC, NECO, JAMB.Tolough is also the School Librarian. He has also work as a student staff at Francis Sulwmanu Idachaba Library Federal University of Agriculture MAKURDI from 2014 to 2015 and also from 2019 to 2020. He also serves as Auditor department of library and Information Science from 2019 to 2021. He has also work as Monitor and Supervisor on immunization across local government in Benue State such as Buruku local government area, Gboko Local Government Area, Kastina Ala Local government area, MAKURDI Local government area etc. under Primary Health Health Care and Benue State Ministries of Health. Tolough has passion for education and much interest in creating agent of transformation into learning and making information resources easily accessible to different categories of users. He is happily married to Philomena Mngusonu Tolough and Blessed with Ternadoo Tolough.
