We meet Kaukr wandering back to his home where his brother and his family live to find it a site of a massacre. Kaukr discovers no survivors, not even his young niece who represented all the good and innocence left in the world to him.

The man, the beast, after burning the house, sets out on a near suicidal hunt for vengeance across the frozen winter wilderness of Jorbiegerland, hunting sixteen killers whom he'd picked out in the footprints making away from the house. Tracking his targets with the help of a blind aging mutt and a strange and charismatic hermit he runs into, Kaukr soon finds more companions on the way, aiding his hunt as they too had suffered from the killers.

As conspiracy evolves and is realised, revenge cursing and bleeding through the characters fate and fortitude, more is realised about pasts, future and fates.

One by one, group by group Kaukr faces off and battles the killers in white knuckled, tense and bloody combat, the fights coming to feel more like random encounters of sudden and vicious violence more than honourable combat.

Finding more than just blood and revenge, but new friends and possibly more, the choice Kaukr must face is to continue his damning path of violence or set down his axe and finally choose peace. The other question of fate he must face is will he survive this bloodthirsty hunt across the wilderness? Or if he does, will he or will he not lose his soul doing so?
