In this collection of twenty short stories, Naguib Mahfouz brings together many events and characters that shape life and reflect the transformations taking place in society. The story bearing the title of the collection was turned into a television series with the same title: "The Final Decision." The events of the story revolve around a father who deals extremely brutally with his wife and children, and in a moment of intense emotion after discovering that his son failed the exams, he attacks the son, intending to teach him a lesson that he will never forget. He receives the first punch in his life from the last person he expected from him, and the father dies of sadness and grief, and his curse continues to surround his family members, especially his son, who drowns in a sea of ¿¿sorrow and unhappiness after his father's death.
