In 1995 Jim visits every waterway in Florence County and tries to catch a fish to get back his childhood. Jim fishes with his son Greg, his son-in-law Ted, his son Jimmy, his brother David, a shirttail relative Ron, and his spiritual side depicted as an Ojibwe Indian who Jim refers to as Wall Eye.

Theodore (Ted) Abbgy was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating from Grand Rapids Central in 1973. As a youth, Ted had many great experiences attending the Grand Rapids Public Schools in both his classes and in extracurricular activities. He especially enjoyed his science classes. Ted participated in orchestra by playing the cello, in Boy Scouts he achieved the rank of Star Scout, he served as an altar boy at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Grand Rapids, had many part time jobs, and he also played on the baseball and basketball teams at Central in 9th and 10th grade. Ted graduated from Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Science Education in 1978. At Ferris Ted occupied his time by studying, singing in the men's glee club and the concert choir, playing in several intramural sports, and he was a member of the choral music fraternity Mu Gamma Chi. Ted worked full time at City Products Ice Company as an ice processor during his summers while he was in college to pay his tuition and room and board at Ferris. In 1978, Ted moved to Rockford, Illinois to work as a science teacher in the Rockford Public schools; retiring in June of 2015. In 1984 Ted received his Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Northern Illinois University. Ted was Rockford's Teacher of the year in 1991. He also published two teacher resource books. The first one published in 1998 was titled How the Scientist Works, and was published by Golden Apple. In 2001 Ted published his second teacher resource book titled Elements and the Periodic Table which was published by Mark Twain Media. Elements and the Periodic Table went into its second printing in 2013. Ted is married to Lisa and they have two children, Valerie and Joseph. They also have a foster daughter Rachelle and her son Maxwell. Today, Ted lives in Rockton, Illinois with Lisa, Joseph, and his nine year old terrier mix Athena. Besides writing, Ted works part time in the deli at Meijer in Machesney Park, Illinois. He serves as assistant chanter at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church where he also serves on the parish council. Ted serves on the Rockford Greek Fest Committee, and the Midtown Ethnic Parade and Festival committee. Ted also works out whenever he can at Northpointe Wellness.
