"The Life and Adventures of Zambaan African King: His Experience of Slavery in South Carolina" by Zamba Zembola is an autobiographical work. In it, Zembola describes his kidnapping and 40 years of labor as a slave on a plantation in the U.S. state of South Carolina. Zamba was born in the Congo where he befriended Captain Winton, one of the Western slave traders with whom his father, the king, did business. Winton provided Zebola with passage on his slave ship to America as a free man. Upon his arrival to the United States, the Captain sold him into slavery and confiscated his possessions.
