For Mum and Dad (but mostly for Mum)
It was both the shortest and most difficult lap,
That which went around the far side of my mother's bed,
Down the length of her dressing table, and into her ensuite bathroom.
We asked that her sprinter's legs would carry her past the finish line.
By the end, I am not sure if it were her legs or mine,
If we stepped or stumbled, but by some miracle,
We had got there, and
The race was finally finished.

Autorenporträt
Richard Erber has qualifications in counselling and has worked for many years as a care worker. He enjoyed being somebody's son and valued that role in his life, wishing it could have lasted a while longer. He hopes that caregivers and readers in general will be encouraged and left smiling after reading, The Lilo Carer, his first book which recounts his own journey of giving palliative care to his mother.
