In book two of the series, our hero Joel Franklin and his cohorts find themselves on a supernatural scavenger hunt for an age old amulet with incredible kingdom building power. Joel, on-again, off-again girlfriend Polly, brother Jasper and best friend Ellis courageously outwit nineteenth century pirates, a disgraced witch and her den of vicious werewolves and a gang of hapless, want to be bandits led by the strangest substitute teacher this side of the Atlantic Ocean. In an exciting and fast- paced race unfolding over three days prior to Halloween, Joel and his intrepid friends learn that true power comes not from what you own but from what you are willing to sacrifice. Frank Woods' love for all things Halloween goes back to his childhood in Philadelphia. For him, Halloween wasn't about something sinister but was a time when imagination and creativity took center stage. His mother would decorate their rowhouse with cutouts of witches, ghosts, goblins, and werewolves, transforming their home into a Halloween wonderland. These memories sparked the idea for the first book in the Longest Halloween series. Frank recalls the homespun costumes, the Dorrie and Old Black Witch children's books, and the little orange UNICEF boxes carried to brightly lit homes in search of treats. Through his books, he hopes to capture the spirit of this simpler, less complex time.
