Autorenporträt
Herman Mertens was born in Geel, Belgium, on April 22nd, 1959. His youth was carefree, full of adventure and imagination, a spirit that is reflected in his writings. Following his studies for a professional bachelor¿s degree he joined the Federal Police force. However, he has never lost his love of adventure and still enjoys cycling holidays in the Ardennes region. He loves good food and cooking, as well as music and plays the drums in the musical group The Lary¿s. He often entertains his family with is storytelling skills and is known as ¿the family storyteller¿. Herman Mertens has had a lifelong interest in submarines, a fascination which resulted in his first book De verloren Duitse duikboot (The Lost German Submarine), in which he brings his own ¿twist¿ to the Second World War. Mertens is divorced and has two daughters.
