A handicapped veteran dies when his tent is set on fire in a homeless encampment known as the Pines. Forensic Detective Quinn Macarthy and Grand Traverse Sheriff Gilda Hansen join TCPD Police Chief Hank Yeager in investigating the death. Was it accidental? Or was someone targeting the homeless community?

As the Traverse City cops delve into what's happening in the urban tent city known for its violence, another crisis hits Traverse Citythe COVID-19 global pandemic. With the governor's stay-at-home order limiting life to the bare essentials, the police force works to keep the city safe.

Quinn and her friend, Conservation Officer Patrick Elliott, turn to outdoor nature photography to keep themselves sane during this strange time of isolation and long work hours. They discover a new peregrine falcon repopulation center being built by an Arab sheik near the tip of Old Mission Peninsula. But things there weren't totally as they appeared, especially after newspaperman Ian Doyle learned some troubling facts from the sheik's past.

In the second novel of the Northwoods Mystery series, THE LURE once again follows Traverse City's crime-fighting team of Quinn, Gilda, Patrick, and Ian as they work to solve what's going on in the Pines and at the Old Mission falconry center. The book is full of twists and turns that will keep you reading. Get it now online in e-book format or paperback at your favorite bookstore.

Autorenporträt
Karen grew up in southwestern Michigan and graduated from Western Michigan University, where she studied writing with Ken Macrorie. She taught secondary school English and Latin for twenty-five years in Portage, Michigan. After retiring from teaching, Karen returned to WMU to obtain a doctorate in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology. She practiced as a licensed psychologist in Kalamazoo for fourteen years. After moving up north in 2006, she taught social science at Davenport University. She currently is retired and devotes her time to writing and photography.

About her writing, Karen states: "Writing has always played an important role in my life: keeping a journal, writing professional articles, helping students become authentic writers, and writing college papers and a dissertation. Writing a novel didn't start until I moved to Northwestern Lower Michigan. There, my love of the Northwoods, crime fiction, and psychology came together with my first e-book mysteries, Culpable and Spinning. It wasn't until my newest novel, Calling, published in both e-book and paperback formats that I feel I've found my stride as a writer."
