"The steam creeps slowly out of the vents from manhole covers as night consumes the landscape of Tavarus Cove, Delaware. The night does it's best to cover the dirty deeds done dirt cheap by its favorite child, those angels with filthy souls taking to stealth to do their evil acts. I sit here like I always do among the receipts of past transactions, old notes from old jobs, and my cell phone set to silent to get a break from the next job of fixing a mess made by some mod boss, overzealous housewife, or pig headed husband. "This city is filled with ills, and secrets. And my job is to make sure the things that should be known unknowns stay that way. Maybe you need my help fixing your situation, or maybe you are the thing I'm supposed to make sure never sees the light of day. In the end my job and my life are 2 separate things, the question is what effect you have on one, the other, or both."

Lucian Cool

The Man Called Dragon is the first in a series of four books that are part of the series Darkland. Following the exploits of Lucian Cool during part of his time in Tavarus Cove, Delaware, USA. A former assassin turned private fixer and investigator, this first tale follows his first interaction with the eponymous man called "Dragon," and the various effects on both upstanding citizens, as well as those deep in the city's underworld of vice. Meeting not only his allies but various rivals and enemies, who has thrust them into this interaction is revealed as Lucian must also navigate his long term business in the city and attempts on his life.

Styled like hard boiled detectives of pulp fiction and film noir, The Man Called Dragon moves at a suspenseful pace as the tension mounts to solve mysteries, and accomplish difficult goals. Purposeful and plentiful in its dialogue and character interactions, the book is sure to find your fancy as a thriller fan, or a crime fan. Unlike most stories of the genre, the protagonist takes form as an anti-villain, instead of the more common anti-hero. And proves itself to be the solution and the incitement to the various situations of the story. With a sharp tongue, a quick wit, and deadly skill, Lucian is sure to both capture your attention, and draw your ire. But as he would say..."All a part of the plan."

Autorenporträt
Born in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in nearby Grandview, Matthew has been writing since the mid-90's. His love of poetry specifically and writing in general he credits to his Mother Wanda. Combining poets like Langston Hughes with books like the Encyclopedia Brown series in the stories she read him or he read as a child. His writing plays with the notions of morality and ethics, while providing space for deeper reading into the motivations and flaws of his characters. Utilizing the poetic flourishes of his other works, with the wit and slickness of comfortable everyday speech, his writing style strives to feel familiar with being too simplistic.
