The Man Who Learrned to Talk to Dogs
Everyone loves dogs, and that love runs strong in our family, so I set out to write a story for them. I wanted to get inside the mind of a dog and imagine what it would say if it could talk. You may be expecting a Dr. Dolittle sort of tale, but somewhere along the way my story took a left turn, and the result is no Dr. Dolittle type of story. It's 4,867 words, the story of how a dog can save a life (or two), just by being a dog, and teach us how to be better humans in the process.

Bill Schweitzer is a well-seasoned individual who is a fledgling writer of fiction. He's written scores of business publications, one prize winning, a play (eons ago), and a self-published short story that imagined the horror of Donald Trump being reelected. He has a first novel and a few other short-stories underway as well.

Autorenporträt
owdy, Y'all. I'm Bill Schweitzer. I live in Austin, Texas, where my books and stories are located, with my lovely wife, the inspiration for my strong female characters, our little faux beagle, Sami (per her DNA, Sami is actually ¿ Basset Hound, but you'd swear she's a beagle), and Sami's cat. I grew up in Austin and was about the same age as the characters in my novel, Doves in a Tempest, in 1958, when the story takes place. It's set in the part of town where I grew up, and the characters live in homes inspired by those where I and several of my friends lived. The restaurants, schools and shops depicted were real, and the street names of local streets have been changed, but major thoroughfares are unchanged. I've tweaked the geography to fit the stories, but only a little.

I'm back in the Austin area, but have lived and traveled throughout the world with my wife, our two children and grandchildren. Along the way we lived for 10 years in the Middle East and 3 years in Germany, just outside of the beautiful city of Heidelberg. Our travels have taken us around the world 3 times, and we have explored the beauty of such diverse places as Moscow/St. Petersburg, South Africa, Sydney Australia and environs, Singapore, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, most of Western Europe and England, and many more. In the process we've come to appreciate different cultures, climes, and cuisines, but I've always considered the Austin area to be home, and have enjoyed making it the backdrop for my writing.
