Using the fictitious van Haydon family as a vehicule, with Jacob as a friend of Menno's , Heide tells the sotry of their travails in Holland and subsequent moves to Germany, Russia and Canada.

Describing Mennonite life in Canada, Heide concentrates on their contribution to World Wart II. Although they were exempt from military service, many volunteered in both combat and non-combat roles. The story follows one family member who becomes a Medic and serves throughout the war in England and Europe.

Autorenporträt
Raised in Vancouver, Lee joined the RCAF in 1940 and spent W.W. II on flying operations in the Mediterranean which are described in his biography 0/00*ÏWhispering Death0/00**. Offered a permanent commission after the war, he spent 20 years in the RCAF at various bases in Canada and England. Taking early retirement, Heide spent the next 14 years working for a high-tech company that made flight equipment. Having written many stories and articles over the years Heide retired at age 59 to write full time. This is his fifth book to be published by Trafford.
