John Ross MacDuff (1818-1895) was a renowned Scottish Presbyterian author and clergyman of the 19th century. Born in Bonhard, near Perth, Scotland, MacDuff was educated at the University of Edinburgh. Ordained in the Church of Scotland in 1842, he served as the parish minister of Kettins, Forfarshire, before transferring to Sandyford, Glasgow in 1855. He gained immense popularity as a preacher and was especially noted for his empathetic pastoral care. His retirement from active pastoral work in 1871 allowed him to fully focus on devotional writing. MacDuff's literary corpus is expansive, embracing the needs of family worship and individual piety. His writing style is characterized by a warm evangelical piety and storytelling that resonates with a Victorian audience, focusing on practical Christian living and devotional insights.
