It was a generous gesture from Vasquez, and I could understand the sentiment. He was after all, going to be hanged tomorrow morning for his crimes. I felt a little embarrassed that he had offered it to me.

"Senor Vasquez that is very kind of you but I cannot.."

Vasquez shook his head and waved a hand at me.

"Please. Let us dispel with the niceties and pretenses now. I don't need any of that anymore where I'm going. Please accept my offer. I don't want the wines to be wasted in here, or worse to be left with the marshals."

I nodded and smiled at the California bandido. Even in the face of his impending demise, his charm and generosity were still very prominent.

"Thank you, Senor Vasquez. You are very

kind and generous."
