The society in which I live is highly technological: we are in America at the end of the 21st century.
I am Dr. Amber T. Matthews of the MBLaboratory in Woods Hole, MA. Here beside me is my son, Flavus M. Thornsen. This is the account of our experience in the Arcade, of the wonders and unspeakable horrors that we discovered and lived through, and that changed us forever. A year after those events, too many questions remain unresolved, until something happens. Human remains are found in the mouth of a mysterious abyssal fish. The protagonists' stubborn search for truth generates a complicated puzzle whose pieces ultimately lead them to face a mysterious entity, burdening them with the responsibility of potentially giving birth to a new world. Will the Church of Rome be able to accept the change represented by the loss of its certainties? Will the Guild of Psychics be able to ensure that the opportunity given to humankind is not lost?
