What if there was a guide of ten tenets a writer could follow to insure a bestselling novel set in South Florida?
Here is a satireor it could be taken seriouslyabout how-to-write guidelines and the publishing industry itself.
Later, I thought some of this stuff is just too wackyit is just so Miamiwell, why don't I just use this? It is the basis of a couple novels I wrote about Miami, The Craziest Month of Max McGuire's Life and The Crazy McGuires.
This may just be the laugh you were looking for.

Phillip worked at both while growing up and going to school. As a young adult, he moved to Miamiwith a short stint in Ecuadorto pursue the writer's life. He has worked as a meat-cutter, engine-rebuilder, mussel diver and house painter.

Phillip's first novel, MUSSELS, was published by Random House. It was followed with the publication of THIRSTY CITY. Both novels are now in print in French translation.

Harry Crews called him "a talent to watch." The French Rolling Stone gave him a full page article concerning MISTER ALABAMA, the French title for MUSSELS.

He now lives on the west coast of Florida.
